Since 1983 we have devoted all our efforts to developing business solutions for the printing industry. With more than 100 installations at renowned printing plants across Germany, Austria, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Russia and the US , we are among the largest software providers in and for the industry. We swear by DISO, which stands for Digital Integrated Steering and Organisation System. Our target groups are sheet fed printing and web offset printing presses, display manufacturers, fan fold and form printing plants, label manufacturers, industrial book binderies, calendar manufacturers, screen printing plants, intaglio printing plants, gravure printing plants, packaging manufacturers and newspaper printers.

For more than 15 years, SSB-GmbH has provided support services and set up operational information systems for firms active in the printing industry. Our organizational consultants are trained printing experts with a broad background of experience in the graphics industry. The solutions we implement enjoy a high degree of acceptance among both management and users. Familiarity with industry needs makes a major contribution to this success. This is complemented with professional introduction support and training by the SSB consultants.

We offer our customers full service – before, during and after the conclusion of the project. We set up performance profiles, making it possible to process business transactions efficiently. Once the project has been wrapped up we can, if desired, handle maintenance functions. Specialized training is offered at the customer’s site to familiarize users with DISO procedures and routines.

DISO performance spectrum covers sales that gives complete customer information. The market demands customer-oriented salespeople with both professional expertise and the willingness to take on a challenge. Quick access to information is becoming important to enable pro-active salespeople to provide perfect advice to the customer. DISO supports these requirements with a parameter-driven customer information system, a structured profits calculation routine, and an information-packed inquiry and bid monitoring function. Operational activities are simplified by transferring inquiry data to job costing, online, and then processing that data automatically.

Job Costing System

To achieve success with the job costing system, salespeople will find in DISO pre-defined calculation schemes with extensive feasibility checks, an intelligent pricing system, and a variable text editor for automatic bid generation. The DISO Customer Data System lets the user define customer databases for sales call reports and to store individual client information such as birthdays, Christmas campaigns, etc. A report generator makes it possible to prepare assessments on the spot.

Follow-up reports on pending inquiries and quotations, on anticipated job profits, the current manufacturing status for job orders, and the results from customer orders which have been invoiced, can be called up at any time. The information is prepared and structured for complete clarity. The DISO job costing system features reflects all the standard production steps and the associated output tables, waste allowance schedules, price lists, and checking tables. If the job costing figures deviate from the operational values, then the master user can quickly modify the control tables to reflect changed conditions. Easy-to-use maintenance programs for output tables, waste allowance catalogs, price lists and feasibility schedules are available.

Retrograde Costing

To ensure fast and reliable pricing, DISO also provides retrograde costing. The most important data for pricing are taken directly from the quotation pricing. The user enters the desired contribution margin or the planned sales price; the system takes care of the rest and reports back immediately with the anticipated profit. If the conditions behind costing change later, then the retrograde costing feature also provides active support to sales. The new price is determined immediately, using multi-step contribution margin accounting. The rock bottom price can be identified immediately. Once the price has been fixed, generating the quotation with DISO is easy. It is possible to use a text editor to insert costing data into running copy; the text for the quotation is generated automatically. The speed at which bids can be prepared with this retrograde costing module is amazing. With the database – uniform in structure from the inquiry through to the quotation – flawed bids will, in the future, be a thing of the past.

Job Processing Software

The DISO job processing software takes the ``work`` out of paperwork to ensure easy, efficient and error-free order handling. The DISO job processing software includes production and business papers which are parameter-driven and designed for easy modification. These include the order confirmation, pallet tags, delivery notes, labels and invoice forms. A detailed order information system shows at ``push-button command`` the current status of the order, indicates which products have been shipped and billed, and provides data on yields and contribution margins. The DISO job processing software supports the user by transferring costing data to the job order. Where there are repeat orders, DISO offers additional useful functions for copying details from earlier jobs.

Production instructions can be generated automatically by the job processing software and linked to an electronic workflow routine for display or print instructions when required. A barcode-based feedback system in the job processing software keeps the user up to date on the status of his job order. On-screen information is available at all times, including facts about the pallets which have been finished and shipped.

Purchasing Management, Materials Management

DISO purchasing management and materials management functions make for simple and efficient handling of all purchasing assignments on time and at good prices. Comprehensive inquiry and order functions provide logical support for day-to-day work. The warehouse management module is easy to use and has a flexible structure. The inventory management concept always gives a complete view of stocks on hand.

Inventory Management

For inventory valuation, you can define whether stocks are to be valued at average or cost-rate prices, or using other values. Interfaces to financial accounting programs support the demand for an integrated, company-wide system. Considerable time in purchasing activities is saved with the integrated generation of materials requisitions by the costing program and comparison against stock materials, based on lists generated by a function that automatically ascertains the requirements. Timely notice of upcoming delivery dates and warnings of overdue shipments through inventory management help you initiate the proper remedial action. The inventory management system also automatically generates reminders or issues notices to suppliers of goods which are soon to be delivered.

It is possible to electronically enter the shipping notes issued by suppliers and compare them with the delivery actually received. Then they can automatically be booked to specific warehouses and locations, and the goods receipt vouchers are automatically generated, thanks to inventory management. Whenever there is a change in production, the scheduler always has information on the materials available and conflicting orders, can access pending materials calls, and can monitor online the receipt of scheduled deliveries to avoid costly waiting periods. DISO’s inventory management facilitates invoice tracing and the forwarding of invoicing data to the accounting department. The inventory management module attaches great importance to the reconstruction of purchasing activities. It is possible to have changes in transactions documented in detail and, where needed, configured for easy interpretation.

Time Management

Time management is the basis for controlling production planning, steering, without which chaos is predictable. Taking the familiar shift operations report as the basis, the DISO time management document is further developed to create the electronic report. In later stages, the presses and other machinery are queried online. Time management from DISO offers several alternatives which can be easily implemented, depending on the degree of organizational depth desired. The production reports and the DISO control center supply reliable production information for time management. Direct processing for time periods in cost accounting is implemented in DISO to ascertain current hourly rates.

DISO time management offers a supplementary tool used in calculating gross wages with a parameter set to define all types of wages in the graphics industry and to respond flexibly to modifications in work schedules. Interfaces to the market’s leading payroll preparation programs – such as SAP, DATEV or IBM – simplify the transfer of wage data and ensure an integrated workflow. User-friendly entry screens on the time management feature make for quick data input. Repeated data can simply be copied, making a significant contribution to reducing data input time and effort.

To allow for phased transition from manual voucher registration to electronic and online data collection on the time management option, DISO provides an electronic shift operations report. Performance figures are always up to date; tampering with job tickets is made more difficult. The DISO time management system gives the user the advantage of starting with a simple voucher-based organization and then expanding successively to match growing needs and expectations.

Production Planning And Control, Enterprise Resource Planning

DISO production planning and control, a form of enterprise resource planning, is a central module within the integrated DISO workflow. To ensure that the workflow, from customer inquiry through to shipping, is stable and under control, DISO production planning and control, or enterprise resource planning offers alternates to manual planning boards. For enterprise resource planning, planning data can be drawn from the job cost estimates and production costing figures; planning tables with a time line and barcode labels for digitizing the board are prepared during production planning and control so that a barcode scanner can be used for reading.

The next planning stage provides for an electronic planning board. The planner is supported by practice-tested processing methods which are stable and easy to use. In order to give operations personnel even more informative data, the electronic planning board makes available a parameter-driven planning and deadline information system. Using the wide variety of data available in the DISO system, it is possible to compile planning and scheduling reports in largely user-definable formats. The utility in the electronic planning board is found in the integration of scheduling data, right through to electronic time recording.

Cost Accounting

Cost accounting and controlling are indispensable tools in planning, steering and monitoring operational success, and a component in the integrated DISO cost accounting and production reporting module. These tools generate informative reports used to monitor operational success, to examine the yields from individual jobs, detect deviations, examine hourly rates and monitor overall operational yields. The results output by DISO time management are used as the basis for controlling.

This cost accounting can feature differing degrees of detail, to provide insights into the production sequence at any point in time. The controller compares set-point values with budgeted values or with comparison figures from earlier periods. In job follow-up procedures, the orders which are received are monitored by the cost accounting module, taking the values and the periods into account, and the yields are forecast. While the job is in progress, job costing routines, which run in parallel, determine the budgeted results and, once the job is completed, automatically makes up the job costing figures; here the set-point values worked out in costing can be compared with the planned and the actual values.

Another important and interesting instrument in the cost accounting feature for the cost controller is the cost center accounting. All the relevant data are drawn together with this tool and organized according to a pre-defined model. User-definable offsetting and allocation keys provide the controller extensive design leeway to make operational events transparent and clear. This DISO cost accounting option can be expanded to provide flexible budget accounting, to determine budgeted hourly rates, and to project planned operational returns. DISO cost accounting can identify weak points early on and effectively control costs.

Merchandise Management

The DISO merchandise management module is characterized by lean, item-oriented sales processing and by an autonomous solution to depict extensive warehouse structures – necessary in organizing high-rise storage, for example. The merchandise management module can be implemented as a stand-alone solution or to augment the other DISO modules and covers all trade and sales activities: products produced in-house and sent to the warehouse, or bought from the outside and marketed as stock items, or whether customer orders that are handled as drop shipments. The integrated order handling feature triggers the order and in a single process issues the shipping documents. Effective monitoring programs are provided to check prompt delivery of goods by your suppliers.

The DISO merchandise management is particularly suitable whenever it is necessary to pick, dispatch and invoice for items in high-profile sales assignments without excess effort. To automate pricing when setting up the order, special tables can be used to store discounts and prices according to a number of criteria. A fixed component in the merchandise management module is its international orientation -- items can be set up in several languages and currencies.

Items which are not on hand are noted when the order is accepted and – unless otherwise desired by the user – will be back-ordered. Once sufficient stocks are on hand, the delivery of back-ordered items can be automated with merchandise management optimization programs. Options can be activated to generate production orders for finishing stock items. DISO merchandise management capabilities and random inventory management supports the assignment of similar items to suitable locations. Picking orders are converted into picking platform traversing commands and withdrawals are posted automatically.

SSB GmbH’s DISO services are available in several languages, including English, French, German, Spanish, Dutch, Portuguese, Russian and Slovakian. That’s because DISO has a major international presence in installations are spread across Germany Netherlands, USA, France, Luxembourg Russia, Austria, Spain, Slovakia, Switzerland and Portugal. The hardware we use includes IBM iSeries, IBM RS/6000 and client/server technology.
